Do’s and Don’ts: Summer Makeup

The only thing worse than having your makeup melt off in the middle of a heat spell is a horrible case of clogged pores followed by a breakout. Eww. Not pretty. Thats why its important to switch up your makeup routine during the hot summer months. Not sure what you should be doing? Check out these summer makeup dos & donts:

DO: Lighten up. Skip the heavy liquid foundation during the day and instead opt for a multi-purpose tinted moisturizer with SPF. There are several light formulas that provide the moisturization and SPF protection you need, as well as sheer coverage from the tint. Mineral powder is also a great lightweight alternative for the warm summer months (just be sure to apply an SPF moisturizer first!).

DONT: Forget to switch it up. Keeping your skin the same shade as it is during the winter is nearly impossible during the sunny summer months. Just face it, youre going to tan a little. For this very reason, if you use foundation and powder, its important to change the color of your product to suit your summer skin tone. The same applies for your blush.

DO: Go for the bronze. Summer is the best time to rock a sun-kissed look and, while the sun can help you achieve this naturally (although not always healthy for your skin), add some glow to your complexion with a bronze powder instead. You can even use the bronzer in lieu of blush for the perfect beach babe look, or use a sheer cheek tint for a dewy, natural look.

DONT: Let it run. Heat. Humidity. Sweat. Pool Splashes. All of these things make for one big makeup disaster if you stick to your usual eye cosmetics. Save yourself from embarrassing raccoon eyes during the summer by switching over to waterproof mascara and eyeliner.

DO: Pout out loud. While the rest of your beauty routine will be simple and lightweight during the dog days of summer, if theres one area in which you can go all out its your lipstick. Make a statement and add instant style with a bright coral lip or hot pink hue.

DONT: Sleep pretty. At the end of the day, regardless of the season, you should always wash your face. Removing all of the makeup, sweat and impurities built up throughout the day followed by a light moisturizer will keep your skin fresh and free of clogged pores and breakouts.
